Meet a Runecaster
In this article:

Steve Bettison is one of our sales engineers at Runecast. His greatest strength is his dedication and professionalism; if he doesn’t know the answer he won’t make one up but he will do his utmost to find the solution. Steve is extremely loyal to his friends and colleagues and treats everyone with respect, whilst also maintaining a great sense of humor. His friends and colleagues say that they have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with him over the past two decades, and they would not hesitate to trust his advice and knowledge. Steve loves to spend time with his family and friends and he enjoys watching football. You may have to forgive him though, as he is a HUGE Manchester United fan.

Q&A with Steve

As a Runecast Sales Engineer, what are your favorite aspects of the work that you do?

For me it's talking passionately about Runecast to partners and prospective customers, and presenting our solution to address their own pain points. I enjoy being involved with webinars and trade shows, and helping out the Sales team in whatever capacity I can.

What are some of the more remarkable trends that you've seen in your IT career so far?

There are so many, but I think two of the biggest game changers for me were Virtualization, moving away from physical server dependency to a more resilient, flexible and versatile virtualized platform, and the second would be Cloud computing.

Do you have any tips for keeping a work-life balance in this new era of hybrid working?

I try to go for a walk at lunchtime or before starting work, this really helps me relax my mind, plus it's good to get some exercise. I regularly step away from my desk for a few minutes  as it’s not good to sit for long periods of time. In addition, I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week.

We hear that you're a force of nature when it comes to table tennis... care to tell us about that?

I don’t know if I’ve ever been described as a ‘force of nature’ when it comes to table tennis, but I shall take that as a compliment! I played from a young age, at both County and National League level. As a junior (U18) I achieved a national ranking of 11, and in the Veterans more recently 55. I love playing the game and have made many friends through the sport along the way.

What is your ideal day off work?

Spending time with my family on holidays, as my family is very important to me. I also like to go exploring and wild camping on Dartmoor with friends.

Thanks Steve, it was great hearing from you!
